Plano, TX Est. 1840's

Many aspiring homeowners in the Dallas area find living downtown too costly, so there's been a migration north. Plano is among the most popular of these surrounding suburbs. In this burgeoning community, land is now suddenly in short supply, and prices have been creeping steadily upward. Newer and larger homes have come to represent a growing percentage of the local housing inventory.

Plano was named a 1994 All-America City by the National Civic League and Allstate Foundation for "outstanding grass-roots action and collaboration among the public, private and non-profit sectors in identifying and solving critical community issues." The award recognized Plano for successful implementation of three initiatives: the community's crime-prevention efforts, including the Neighborhood Crime Watch program; Practical Parent Education, which provides family support services; and Plano's Children's Medical Clinic, which provides free medical treatment to children of families without health insurance.

In 1997, Plano was named the fourth most "Kid-Friendly City" in the United States, based on findings of the Children's Environmental Index. Plano was also named the eighth safest city in the United States, based on Federal Bureau of Investigation crime statistics, and it was reported in Money magazine's listing of "America's Safest Places." And thanks to a strong telecommunications infrastructure and dedication to small-business development, Plano was named the "Best City in the U.S. for Home-Based Businesses" by Home Office Computing magazine.

Plano also host the well known Plano Balloon Festival each year and has been a family fun attraction since 1979.  They will be celebrating 30yr in September.  It is an event for everyone and filled with fun food and at night the lighting of the balloons.
